What we do

North Country Garden Club’s Projects

The North Country Garden Club took root more than a century ago. Over the years, we have provided care and maintenance for many projects in our North Shore community. We provide continued care of the Francke Sanctuary in Brookville and the garden at historic Earle-Wightman House in Oyster Bay. The Theodore Roosevelt Cemetery Path and Bird Sanctuary, Sagamore Hill, Bailey Arboretum, Planting Fields Arboretum, Old Westbury Gardens are among the places where we have gotten our hands in the dirt, provided design talents or contributed with fundraising efforts. NCGC members have also provided plants and landscaping skills for Habitat for Humanity houses in partnership with some of our local churches.

Each year we award scholarships to high school seniors embarking on college studies in horticulture, conservation, and environmental science. The money we raise from our holiday fundraiser supports over thirty environmental, horticultural, and civic organizations.

In the spring of 2023 NCGC was awarded a Common Ground Collaborative Grant from the Garden Club of America. This grant enables GCA member clubs to build long-term relationships with diverse community groups. With our grant, we have established a partnership with the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club working with club staff, youth and parents in the club’s after school program and summer session. Our goals include building a knowledge base, appreciation, and passion for horticulture, healthy eating habits, the natural environment.
